Before this, we had never heard of Sculpture Square; we found it a very pleasant venue. The front of the Chapel building (formerly a church), being shaded by a huge tree, and the courtyard between the Chapel and the Gallery, all have a romantic feel about it.
We thought that the market was very well put together. There is no lack of markets in Singapore these days, but sometimes, you come across one that makes you want to say, “That was rather good.” It is a small cosy event, and we liked the curation very much. You get your flea market staples, you get new finds. There was a great selection of design books on sale, tempting bakes, and generally, a good place to get acquainted/ revisit the local design/ art/ craft/ writing scene.
Next door, there was a exhibition going on in the Gallery, titled I Am Here To Stay. It gathered works from 5 artists, “whose works interrograte [sic] notions of memory transcending between the past and present, sparks nostalgia and evokes feelings and emotions left for your interpretation.” Totally something we would fall for, I say!
We will talk a bit more about some of the works/ artists we enjoyed on this day in another post.
PS. It is a pity that by the time a post is up, the event is over. But you can still catch I Am Here To Stay!
