Would you pay S$39 for a USB-powered fan made of plastic?
We almost did, but when we went back to MUJI, it was all sold out. And it wasn’t even Christmas.
This is the power of MUJI, and its distractingly beautiful products.
Give MUJI a ordinary product, and its designers will conjure up tweaks to make thereto, and render it something you want to pick up, fondle and/or take home.
It may seem counter-intuitive that what MUJI has done, instead of dressing the product up, is to pare a product down to its essence. And given the price point at which MUJI products are presented to the consumer, it may sometimes seem at odds with its touted messages of minimalism and “enough is best” (having enough is good enough).
But worrying about prices and wondering about design philosophy of a by-now mainstream brand, that seems so unnecessary.
We would really like a beautiful USB fan from MUJI.
