Name: City Corner
No. of pieces: 483
Notes: Bus stop, bus, bike shop, pizza shop, 5 minifigs, skateboard and bicycle.
The build begins with the bus, and it is rightly so, because the bus is the feature of this set.
While it ends up slightly smaller than expected (mainly because we have the VW Camper Van, which is large and very detailed), the bus is, relative to the minifigs, rather proportionate, seats 5 in addition to the driver, and quite adorable.
I love the street lamp at the bus stop. The next bag culminates in the building of a bike shop. I found this section rather boring. Only the surveillance camera held some form of interest.
Now, I had a lot more fun with the next bag. The Pizza Shop! I was very taken by the oven, and the mechanism you have to build that will allow you to push open the front of the oven. The oar is actually a peel to slide the pizza in/out of the oven.
And since I am so taken by the pizza lady, here is another picture.
The rest of the build is to form the level atop the pizza shop. It is a restaurant, and gives the building some presence. The roof is made up of not-that-many pieces and quite clever given the amount of space there is.
Each module has its own base plate, so you are free to rearrange the modules to create your own street.
The set is not complex but fun to build. I like the modular nature of it, and you can finish one bag and leave the rest for another day.
It was made in 2009 and has been discontinued. I happened to see it in Simply Toys at Raffles Place and was too taken by the bus to resist the price tag. I think I paid around S$120 for it. It would have been sold for much cheaper when it first came out, but I guess you have to decide if you want to pay the heftier price. I generally desist from such actions but sometimes, I don’t.
